Under the technical leadership of Beton- und Monierbau GmbH, Herne, the Contractor is working round the clock to achieve the rehabilitation work in the Niederstetten Tunnel under the Schlossberg in the course of the Aschaffenburg - Crailsheim railway line of Deutsche Bahn.
The work in the 140 year-old tunnel is going on as planned so that the first train can pass through the tunnel already at five o'clock in the morning of the March 29, 2010.
The historical tunnel portals have already been equipped with the planned supports. At present, the bottom of the 272 m-long tunnel is being excavated and a new invert in the form of a reinforced concrete shell installed before the track-laying work can begin.
The historical horseshoe tunnel was converted by the "Tunnel Niederstetten" Joint Venture into a modern tube tunnel with up-to-date technical safety equipment. The overall construction project will be by completed by mid-May 2010.
